CTC East Return-to-Learn Plan

General Safety:

  • Schoology:

o   Our district has selected Schoology as the new Learning Management System (LMS) for all of our schools to use. Teachers will begin implementing Schoology from the beginning of the year to ensure all students are familiar with the platform.

  • As a proactive measure, the grading scale for the 2020-2021 school year has been adjusted. The minimum passing grade is now 60.
  • The absence requirement in the DCS exemption policy has been removed for 2020-2021.
  • MDE has given districts flexibility to adjust the amount of time for classroom instruction. Because of this, our blocks have been changed to 83 minutes.
  • If distance learning or a hybrid model is implemented throughout the school year, students will be held accountable for assignments given during that time.
  • Clinical experiences for Health Sciences year 2 and Law and Public Safety year 2 will be modified to include virtual videos, virtual guest speakers and demonstrations, practical exercises located on the school campus, additional practice in the lab setting, etc.

Logistical Changes:

  • Arrival/Dismissal

o   Due to the limited student parking area, students are not able to drive on a daily basis. Transportation will be provided by the district.

o   Students will enter and exit programs through the rear of the building.

    • Dismissal may be by program AND by school.
    • Students will enter directly to the program and remain.

o   Students will remain in the classroom until a restroom is available.

  • If concessions are sold, a cart will be brought to each program for students to purchase. Exact change is encouraged.
  • Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottle.
  • We will utilize a curb-side service for checkouts.
  • Field trips are not allowed at this time.
  • Guest speakers are not allowed at this time.
  • Assemblies and multi-program meetings are not allowed at this time.
  • All student organization meetings must take place virtually.
  • All visitors must make an appointment in advance, unless there is an emergency.
  • Parent meetings and conferences will be conducted through technology, unless there is an emergency.
  • The Student Handbook will be electronic and available through Schoology.
  • Open House:

o   Each teacher will provide a welcome and a tour of the program uploaded to Schoology.

    Classroom Procedures:

    • All excess equipment and furniture will be removed to provide extra space.
    • Tables will be spread as far as possible.

o   No more than 2 students at a table or a workstation; seating charts will be utilized and will remain for 9 weeks when possible.

o   Students from the same school should be seated together.

    • Masks will be highly encouraged but not required for students.
    • If students are working together in a partner setting, they must be from the same table; teachers will determine additional safety measures.
    • Equipment will be cleaned after each use.
    • All supplies (colored pencils, markers, scissors, etc.) are for individual use only-no shared table supplies.

      Sick or Symptomatic Students:

      • Students will receive a symptom check prior to being transported to CTC East.

o   If a student indicates they have a symptom, they will report to the nurse at their high school.

o   The student will not be transported to CTC East.

      • If any student complains of a related symptom while in attendance at CTC East, the student will report to the designated location.

o   A mask will be provided to the symptomatic student.

o   Temperature will be taken; parents will be notified for pick up.

o   Students will not be allowed to return to their school on the bus if they inform us of a symptom.

        • Please provide up-to-date phone numbers.

*These procedures could change as additional information is provided.
